Legendary Broadcaster Bob Robertson To Leave Indians

November 23, 2010

The Spokane Indians announced today that legendary radio broadcaster Bob Robertson will be stepping away from the Indians broadcast duties to spend more time with his wife and family at their home in Tacoma, WA. Robertson will continue to be the voice Washington State University football and Pacific Lutheran University basketball.

"While this is sad news, we as an organization are very supportive of Bob's decision and were fortunate to have him as our broadcaster for over a decade," said Indians Managing Partner Bobby Brett.

Robertson has called four Northwest League Championships in his 12 seasons with the Indians and was awarded the Joe Martin Award in 2005 from the Northwest League.

"I will always treasure my time with the Indians," said Robertson. "I have seen some fantastic baseball over the years and met some of the nicest young men to ever play the game."

Robertson is just completing his 44th season as the voice of WSU football. Prior to joining the Spokane Indians he was the play-by-play announcer of the Tacoma Rainiers for 16 seasons. He is a 12-time winner of the Washington State Sportscaster of the year award and received the prestigious Chris Schenkel Award as he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2004. Robertson is a member of the WSU Hall of Fame and Inland Empire Hall of Fame. Robertson also spent two years serving as the television voice for Notre Dame football and basketball in the 1950s.

The Indians will honor Robertson's sports broadcasting career at Avista Stadium on Opening Night, June 17th. All 76 home and away Indians radio broadcasts can be heard live on 1510 KGA or streaming live online through www.spokaneindiansbaseball.com.
