Jerry Nyman set to return to Idaho Falls
IDAHO FALLS -- The Kansas City Royals announced today that Jerry Nyman has been named the new pitching coach for the Idaho Falls Chukars. This will be Nyman's 20th year as coach at the professional level. For the last three seasons, Nyman has been in the Tampa Bay Devil Rays organization as the Devil Rays Minor League Pitching Coordinator. Prior to his three years with Tampa Bay, Nyman was Pitching Coach in Idaho Falls for the Padres (at that time an affiliate of the San Diego Padres). Nyman has also worked for the Milwaukee Brewers as their Minor League Pitching Coordinator from 2001-2002, and spent 8 seasons in the Atlanta Braves organization, also as a pitching coach. He began his coaching career in 1987 with an independent organization in Salinas, before making his way to the professional level in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization at Class A Welland.
A native of Logan Utah, Nyman pitched at the Major League level for three years with the Chicago White Sox (1968-69) and San Diego Padres (1970). He made 30 career appearances compiling a 6-7 record with three complete games, two shutouts, and a 4.57 ERA. Nyman currently resides in Helena, Montana.
The Kansas City Royals also announced today the Chukars new trainer for 2007, Kyle Turner. Turner spent his first seven seasons in professional baseball in the Texas Rangers organization. Throughout the last two years, Turner served as the Medical Coordinator following a five year stint as trainer for three different minor league teams in the Rangers organization. Before starting his career at the professional level, Turner worked for the Northern Oklahoma College Jets in Tonkawa, Oklahoma.
Turner played collegiate baseball at Southern Utah University in Cedar City, Utah, where he was an Academic All-American. He graduated Southern Utah with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 1998. Turner currently resides in Phoenix, Arizona with his wife, Wendy.
