On Sunday morning, the Baltimore Orioles announced the passing of former IronBirds infielder, Ramon Ramirez, who was killed in a motorcycle accident in the Dominican Republic on Saturday night. He was 23 years old.

Orioles Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations, Dan Duquette, issued the following statement: "Our entire organization is deeply saddened by the sudden and tragic death of Ramon Ramirez. As a member of the Orioles organization, Ramon worked tirelessly to make the most of his opportunity to play professional baseball. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, teammates and coaches as we mourn this unimaginable loss."

Signed as a non-drafted free agent in 2014, Ramirez played one game for the IronBirds in 2015. His last game action came with Frederick on September 7 against Winston-Salem.

"This is a very tough day for both the IronBirds and Orioles family," said IronBirds General Manager Joe Harrington. "We send our thoughts and prayers to Ramon's family and loved ones during this challenging time."
