Indians Name Mike Boyle New Radio Broadcaster

December 21, 2010

Spokane, WA -- The Spokane Indians Baseball Club announced today that Mike Boyle will replace Hall of Famer Bob Robertson as the Indians play-by-play announcer. Boyle has been the radio voice of the Spokane Chiefs Hockey Club for the past eight years.

"We were fortunate to have Bob Robertson for 12 years, and we are also fortunate to have Mike Boyle in position to carry on a great tradition of Spokane Indians baseball on the radio," said Dave Pier, Chief Marketing Officer for Brett Sports.

Boyle began his sports broadcasting career in 1992 as a TV play-by-play announcer for Boise State University sports. He moved to Spokane in 2000, and became the "Voice of the Chiefs" in 2002. In 2006, Boyle was the TV play-by-play voice for the Spokane Shock.

Boyle however is no stranger to the Indians, nor the Northwest League, having often served as a backup announcer to Bob Robertson. He called games three and four in the Indians 2008 Northwest League Championship Series against Salem-Keizer, as well as Game two in the 2010 NWL Championship against Everett. Boyle has also acted as the play-by-play announcer for the Tri-City Dust Devils since 2006.

Boyle is currently a sports reporter and producer at KREM-2 TV in Spokane. He has also worked as a sports anchor for KXLY-TV in Spokane, KBCI-TV in Boise, ID and KOLD-TV in Tucson, AZ.

All Indians home and away games are broadcast live on Sports Radio 1510 KGA from Spokane.

"It is an honor to be able to work with the Indians," said Boyle. "No one can ever replace a legend like Bob Robertson in the broadcast booth, so I will do my best to just continue representing the Indians listeners with a great radio experience."

After 12 seasons as the Indians broadcaster, Robertson stepped away from the Indians to be spend more time with his family. The Indians will honor Robertson's sports broadcasting career at Avista Stadium on Opening Night, June 17th.

The Spokane Indians are the Class "A" Short-Season affiliate of the Texas Rangers. Opening Day of the 2011 season is Friday June 17th against the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes. Season Ticket packages are on sale now, and start as low as $63 per seat. Call the Avista Stadium Ticket Office at 509-343-OTTO (6886) for more information.
