Salem Announces 2011 Field and Training Staff

December 28, 2010
Salem, VA - The Boston Red Sox and Salem Red Sox have announced the 2011 Salem Red Sox field and training staff. The Salem Red Sox welcome a new manager, hitting coach, and pitching coach for the franchise's third year as a Boston affiliate. Bruce Crabbe has been named the Salem Red Sox manager for the 2011 season, while Kevin Walker and Alex Ochoa come to Salem to serve as pitching and hitting coaches, respectively.

Crabbe enters his seventh year in the Red Sox organization and returns in a manager role for the third season during his tenure with Boston. He has served four seasons as Boston's minor league infield coordinator as well as seven years in the Texas Rangers system serving as the hitting and infield coach for Triple-A Oklahoma and Single-A Pulaski's manager. After being named an All-American at the University of Florida in 1984, Crabbe played professionally over nine seasons in the Cubs, Blue Jays, and Braves organizations.

Walker, a sixth round selection in 1995 by the San Diego Padres, enters his third consecutive year as a minor league pitching coach for the Boston organization (Greenville, 2010 and Lowell, 2009). In 2009, Walker oversaw a Lowell Spinners pitching staff that posted a franchise-record 2.96 ERA.

Ochoa joins the Salem Red Sox in a coaching role after playing eight seasons for the New York Mets, Minnesota Twins, Milwaukee Brewers, Cincinnati Reds, Colorado Rockies, and Anaheim Angels organizations.

Brandon Henry will return as Athletic Trainer for the 2011 season after arriving in Salem in 2010.
