Burlington Baseball Extends Agreements With Kansas City Royals and City Of Burlington
Burlington, N.C. -- The Burlington Royals (Rookie-level; Appalachian League) and parent Kansas City Royals have extended their partnership through the 2020 season.
The announcement came from general manager Ryan Keur after the team was able to secure a five-year lease extension with the City of Burlington following a City Council meeting earlier this week.
"We are very excited about continuing our partnership with the Kansas City Royals. Everything about the Kansas City Royals is first-class and we could not be happier to be a part of the family culture and atmosphere that they have built," said Keur.
The franchise has enjoyed its recent success from top to bottom. The parent club, Kansas City Royals has now appeared in back to back World Series, winning the latter. Burlington Royals alum Salvador Perez was named the World Series MVP. Overall, three former Burlington Royals were on the World Series winning roster in 2015.
Burlington Athletic Stadium has seen a number of renovations in the past couple of years. Prior to the 2015 campaign, the city of Burlington renovated the underneath of the stadium including a renovated visiting clubhouse, umpire locker rooms, office space and new entrances into the dugouts. Ronnie Richardson, Director of Minor League Operations for the Kansas City Royals said "we are truly excited to continue our relationship with the City of Burlington and Burlington Baseball. The commitment shown by the city and the way the community continues to embrace our players and staff makes Burlington a special place to develop our young players."
This spring, the city of Burlington and Baseball Baseball are partnering again to elevate the experience at Burlington Athletic Stadium. It will include all new seating down the first and third base side with elevated, modernized and handicap accessible bleachers. According to Keur, there are more perks to come.
The Burlington Royals have experienced strong growth in attendance over recent years. 2015 was a record setting year for the team, welcoming more fans to Burlington Athletic Stadium than ever before as a Royals affiliate. 2016 marks the 10th year anniversary of Royals baseball in Burlington. Burlington Royals start the season at home on June 23rd at 7 pm against the Princeton Rays. Season tickets, group tickets are on sale now.
