Barons to Host Miles College in Preseason Exhibition

First pitch set for 6:30 p.m. April 5, 2016 at Regions Field

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham Barons are proud to announce the opponent for the Barons annual preseason exhibition game will once again be Miles College based out of nearby Fairfield, Alabama. The Barons first contest of the season is scheduled for Tuesday, April 5, 2016 with first pitch slated for 6:30 p.m.

General admission tickets for the game will be sold for $7 at Regions Field on the day of the game and at Miles College prior to the contest. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m.

"We started the tradition of the Barons hosting a local college a few years ago and we're excited to partner with Miles College in providing their student-athletes, supporters, and administration an opportunity to come out for a fun day at Regions Field," Barons General Manager Jonathan Nelson said. "This is always a special event for our organization and the perfect way to begin another season at Regions Field."

The Golden Bears, led by head coach Kenneth Hatcher, are currently 1-3 on the season with their first win coming at Rickwood Field over Morehouse College.

"Playing this game this time of year gives our kids an opportunity to relax and have fun because the game does not affect our record or conference standings," Hatcher said. "It also benefits us to see good pitching heading into the post season."

The Barons faced off against Birmingham-Southern College last season, one year after Birmingham defeated Miles 5-0 in seven innings. The Golden Bears became the first college team to face the Barons in an exhibition game at Regions Field when they took on the Barons prior to the 2014 season.

The Birmingham Barons open the 2016 season Thursday, April 7 on the road against the Jacksonville Suns, Double-A Affiliate of the Miami Marlins. The Barons open the home portion of their 2016 season at Regions Field on Tuesday, April 12 against the Tennessee Smokies, Double-A Affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, with first pitch at 7:05p.m. For ticketing information, game schedules, promotional calendars, or additional information about Regions Field, call the Barons front office at (205) 988-3200.
