Umpire School set to visit three clinics

January 20, 2011
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Amateur umpires will have the opportunity to learn from professional instructors of The Umpire School at clinics being held in Florida and South Carolina this weekend. The Umpire School instructors will teach participants the Two-Man Umpire System and provide tips on field work and plate work in the batting cages. The sessions will also cover the handling of on-field situations, rules knowledge and professional etiquette.

"These clinics are an important way for us to give back to the officiating community, and at the same time build awareness of The Umpire School and the opportunities it will provide umpires," Professional Baseball Umpire Corp. (PBUC) Executive Director Justin Klemm said.

PBUC oversees the training and employment of umpires in the Minor League Baseball system throughout the United States and Canada.

"Our goals are reinforced when our instructors can meet with umpires at events like these, and with MiLB Vero Beach opening The Umpire School we are excited about the educational, instructional and training benefits for umpires in the U.S. and internationally," Klemm added.

Jorge Bauza will be the keynote speaker and a special guest instructor at the 2011 Florida High School Athletic Association Umpire Clinic tomorrow and Saturday at Jack Russell Stadium in Clearwater, Fla.

Klemm, Mike Felt, Rich Garcia, Matt Hollowell and Larry Reveal will serve as special guest instructors at the 2011 Florida High School Athletic Association Umpire Clinic on Saturday at the Vero Beach Sports Village in Vero Beach, Fla.

Dusty Dellinger and Darren Spagnardi will be special guest instructors at the 2011 South Carolina Umpire's Camp on Saturday and Sunday at The University of South Carolina Baseball Stadium in Aiken, S.C.

The Umpire School is an all-inclusive training ground for umpires that will host its first class of umpires in January 2012. Please visit www.therightcall.net for more information.
