Tigers hire Dave Huppert as the manager at Lakeland

Huppert has managed 21 seasons at the minor league level with the Milwaukee Brewers (1986-91), Chicago White Sox (1994-97), Florida Marlins (1999-2001), Montreal Expos (2002-04) and Philadelphia Phillies (2006- 10). He led Single A Lakewood to the South Atlantic League championship in 2006 and Single A Clearwater to the Florida State League championship in 2007. Huppert has earned manager of the year honors twice during his career, in 1988 with Single A Stockton in the California League and 2001 with Single A Brevard County in the Florida State League. Huppert played 10 seasons of professional baseball, seeing action at the minor league level with the Baltimore Orioles (1977-83), Minnesota Twins (1981) and Milwaukee Brewers (1984-86). He saw action in two games at the major league level with the Orioles in 1983, while he appeared in 15 games with the Brewers in 1985. Andy Barkett has joined the Florida Marlins organization to serve as their manager at Double A Jacksonville in 2011. He served as the manager at Single A Lakeland for the past three seasons (2008-10).
