Former Intern Morris Dribbling from OKC to Tulsa

Morris in Midst of 5-Day, 114-mile Trek
January 31, 2011
Hiroshi “Morris” Morioka, a former IronPigs intern from Japan that is now interning in the NBA for the Oklahoma City Thunder, is currently dribbling a game ball 114 miles from Oklahoma City to Tulsa!  Morris left the Oklahoma City Arena on Monday morning and will travel by foot through four towns on Route 66 before arriving at the Tulsa Convention Center in time for their Friday night game against the Utah Flash.  The Tulsa 66ers are the NBA D-League affiliate of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

This will be the third time Morioka has dribbled a basketball for consecutive days over a long distance. Most recently in 2007, Morioka dribbled a basketball more than 300 miles (13 days) from Kyoto to Tokyo to raise awareness of the NBA and the sport of basketball in his native country of Japan.

Morris is currently a 2010-11 associate with the Thunder’s Events and Entertainment department in Oklahoma City, fulfilling a life-long dream of having the opportunity to work in the NBA.  Morioka, a 2007 graduate of Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto, interned with the IronPigs each of the last two seasons and assisted in the execution of Coca-Cola Park’s critically-acclaimed on-field entertainment and promotions.  Morris is an avid basketball fan who has spread the awareness of the NBA and basketball across the globe.
