Adams, Case, Dunatov, Urbina suspended

NEW YORK -- Rangers first baseman Trever Adams, Blue Jays right-hander Andrew Case, Indians reliever Jordan Dunatov and former Pirates right-hander Dan Urbina were all suspended on Monday after violating the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball said Adams tested positive for an amphetamine, which is considered a stimulant, and Dunatov and Urbina both tested positive for a drug of abuse a second time. Case was cited for "failing to take a drug test." All four received 50-game suspensions without pay.

Adams, 27, hit .227 with 10 homers, 42 RBIs and a .287 on-base percentage in 119 games for Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock in 2015. The Rangers' 16th-round pick in 2011 was a Texas League All-Star for the RoughRiders in 2014 and has hit .262 with 45 homers and 288 RBIs in 556 career Minor League games over five seasons.

Case, 23, signed with Toronto after going undrafted in 2013. He went 3-4 with a 3.10 ERA with 44 strikeouts and 18 walks in 52 1/3 innings for Class A Short Season Vancouver and Class A Lansing last year. He's earned a trip to the Northwest League All-Star game in each of his two seasons.

Dunatov, the Indians' 12th-round pick in 2014, missed all of 2015 following right elbow surgery. The 23-year-old appeared in 10 games in 2014, when he struck out seven, walked 10 and allowed five runs in nine innings with the Rookie-level Arizona League Indians.

Urbina, 22, was released by the Pirates on Jan. 13 after going 2-5 with a 6.99 ERA in 16 relief outings for the Rookie-level Bristol Pirates last summer. He signed with Pittsburgh in April 2011 and is 9-11 with a 5.59 ERA in 56 career outings since 2011.

Adams, Case and Dunatov will all begin their suspensions in 2016 while Urbina's ban will be effective immediately upon signing with another Major League organization.

Major League Baseball has suspended 21 players this year for violations of the Minor League drug program.
