Shorebirds Job Fair Set for This Saturday
Salisbury, Md. - The Delmarva Shorebirds, class "A" affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, are holding a seasonal job fair at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium on Saturday, February 26 from 10-1 p.m. Interested candidates can fill out applications at the job fair and then interview for a wide array of game day positions. The Shorebirds would like to emphasize that the biggest needs of the team are currently a public address announcer, on-field MC and a press box DJ.
The Shorebirds will also be hiring ushers, flock/entertainment crew members, parking attendants, ticket office workers, ticket takers, Flock Shop attendants, bat boys, amusement area workers and more. A brief description of each position is detailed below.
AVAILABLE JOBS
- Ushers - The Shorebirds are hiring enthusiastic people to assist fans in the grandstand. Ushers are responsible for wiping down seats, helping with crowd control and interacting with fans.
- Flock/Entertainment - The Shorebirds are hiring outgoing people to be on the entertainment crew at Perdue Stadium, The Flock. Crew members perform on the dugouts, assist with on-field promotions and help gather contestants.
- Parking - The Shorebirds are hiring parking attendants to help run the parking lot during game days. Parking attendants collect money, direct traffic and assists fans as they arrive at Perdue Stadium.
- Ticket Office - The Shorebirds are hiring enthusiastic people to help sell tickets on game days. Employees will be responsible for selling walk up tickets to fans and handing out will call tickets. Box office employees must be able to work well in a fast paced environment. Box office employees should also be computer savvy.
- Ticket Taker - The Shorebirds are hiring charismatic people to scan tickets and hand out promotional items to fans as they enter the stadium. Ticket takers must be willing to engage fans and must be knowledgeable about the stadium.
- Flock Shop - The Shorebirds are hiring energetic people to assist the Flock Shop manager in the official merchandise store of the Shorebirds. Flock Shop attendants will be responsible for collecting money from customers, restocking merchandise, inventory and more. The Shorebirds are also looking for an outgoing personality to sell merchandise in the stands.
- Bat Boy - The Shorebirds are hiring bat boys to assist the clubhouse manager and players and coaches before, during and after games. Bat boys are responsible for putting water and ice in dugouts, preparing dugouts, chasing foul balls, picking up bats and taking care of any needs of the players and coaches during games.
- Amusement Area - The Shorebirds are hiring amusement area workers to run the kids area. Amusement area employees are responsible for setting up the inflatables, monitoring the kids, collecting money and breaking down the inflatables after the game.
- Press Box - The Shorebirds are looking for press box employees to help with the game presentation at the stadium. The Shorebirds are hiring a public address announcer, on-field MC, press box DJ and video board switcher. The public address announcer is responsible for reading sponsor announcement, introducing the batters and keeping fans informed. Must have a good voice. The on-field MC is responsible for creating a fun and exciting environment at Perdue Stadium. Must be very outgoing and must have a good voice. The press box DJ is responsible for playing music, game appropriate sound effects and more. Experience is preferred but not required.
The Shorebirds catering company, Ovations, will also be conducting interviews for several positions on Feb. 26. Ovations is hiring for the following positions; manager, lead cook, concession cashiers, concession cooks and concession vendors.
Job seekers must be available to work week nights and weekends between April 5 and September 5. Most games from Monday through Saturday begin at 7:05 p.m. while Sunday games will be played at 2:05 p.m. during the first half of the season and 5:05 p.m. from July 17 until the end of the year.
The only stipulation to work for the Delmarva Shorebirds is that you must be 16-years old by April 1, 2011.
Arthur W. Perdue Stadium is located at 6400 Hobbs Road, Salisbury Md. 21804. The stadium parking lot is adjacent to Route 50 heading towards Ocean City.
The Delmarva Shorebirds open the 2011 season on April 5 with a special exhibition game against Salisbury University at Perdue Stadium. The season begins in earnest on April 7, when the Shorebirds take on the Greensboro Grasshoppers at Perdue Stadium.

During the 2009 season, the Shorebirds finished with an average attendance of 3,567 fans, the largest average since the 2002 season. In 2007, The Shorebirds had the top attendance based on market size in Minor League Baseball(tm), according to Sports Business Journal (Aug. 2008). In 2010, more than 6,000 fans packed Arthur W. Perdue Stadium nine times including a season high of 8,993 fans on August 7th.
