Fireflies Inaugural Season Will Broadcast on WGCV

Glory Communications will broadcast 2016 Fireflies season
March 11, 2016

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia Fireflies full 140-game schedule will be broadcast on the radio through Glory Communications for the 2016 season. The Fireflies home and away games will be simulcast on WGCV 620 AM and 105.1 FM.

"We are excited about this opportunity to team together with John Katz and the Columbia Fireflies for the 2016 season," said Alexis Snipe-Campbell, Glory Communications General Manager.

"Our broadcast partnership with Glory Communications is a perfect match," said Fireflies team president, John Katz. "Their station format is very family-oriented, which aligns particularly well with what the team will be doing at the ballpark and around the Midlands."

The Fireflies are also excited to announce the newest addition to their staff with the hiring of Kevin Fitzgerald as the director of broadcasting and media relations. Fitzgerald brings great experience to the radio booth and to the announcing of Fireflies games. He spent the 2015 baseball season as the assistant director of broadcasting and media relations with the Fort Wayne TinCaps of the Midwest League.

Fitzgerald graduated from Syracuse University in 2014 with a degree in broadcast journalism. While at Syracuse, he was the Assistant Sports Director and play-by-play voice of Syracuse football, basketball and lacrosse on WAER 88.3 FM. In May of 2014, Fitzgerald won the Jim Nantz Award from Sportscasters Talent Agency of America and was named the nation's most outstanding collegiate sportscaster.

Fitzgerald currently serves as a college basketball play-by-play broadcaster for ESPN and is the voice of The Citadel's football telecasts on ESPN3. He called the action of the Bulldogs' 2015 season that culminated to the FCS playoffs for the first time in 23 years.

"Kevin is a great young talent and Fireflies fans across the Midlands, the US and all over the world will enjoy his broadcast style," added Katz. "He's a spectacular addition to our front office."
