MiLB Charities co-sponsors ump clinic

The Umpire School partners in event at Durham Athletic Park
February 22, 2011
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Minor League Baseball Charities and The Umpire School are partnering to sponsor a free umpire clinic on Saturday, Feb. 26, from 9 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. at historic Durham Athletic Park (DAP) in Durham, N.C. Members of the Professional Baseball Umpire Corp. staff, with over 100 years of experience in professional baseball, including time at the Major League level, will instruct attendees using the same high standards that have developed many of today's Major League umpires.

Participants will be taught the Two-Man Umpire System and will be provided tips on field and plate work. The only plate equipment participants will need is a mask for simulated cage work. The instructors will also discuss the handling of non-routine situations, rules knowledge and professional etiquette.

Registration for the clinic, which is full, begins at 8 a.m. Saturday and lunch will be provided by MiLB Charities.

Current and prospective umpires at all levels wishing to attend future clinics should note May 14 when the staff of The Umpire School will be back at the DAP for their second clinic of the year. Registration information about this clinic will be posted on www.therightcall.net when it becomes available.
