THE NAME REMAINS THE SAME FOR THE TOURISTS' MR. MOON

ASHEVILLE-The newest member of the Asheville Tourists apparently will remain somewhat of a mystery man. For the past two weeks, the South Atlantic League team has conducted on-line voting to help determine the first name of the club's new mascot, Mr. Moon. Fifty-four percent of the fans participating in the survey voted to refer to the newcomer simply as "Mr. Moon" as opposed to one of the five other names that were deemed finalists.

A random drawing was held by the team to determine the winner of the corresponding contest to name Mr. Moon. Barry Master is the lucky recipient of two season tickets to the Tourists home games for the 2011 campaign.

Officially, Mr. Moon has a first name, which was the one that placed second in the balloting. Turns out, long-time team mascot, the beloved Ted E. Tourist, is the only one who knows this information. Ted E., however, is vowing to keep this secret to himself because that was the fans' choice. Through his interpreter, team assistant general manager Chris Smith, Ted E. says he is bound by two covenants-abiding by the fans' wishes while maintaining professional etiquette with his new mascot teammate.

"We had a great response to the voting, and Ted E. is determined to abide by the wishes of his favorite people-our fans," Smith said. "He's excited about having a new partner in entertainment at McCormick Field and wants to do everything possible to make Mr. Moon feel welcome and at home."

Mr. Moon is part of a new identity program being introduced by the Tourists for the 2011 season. Other changes include new team colors as well as new uniforms, which will be unveiled later this spring. The Tourists also have a new concessionaire that will bring higher quality food items to fans at McCormick Field.

"We're excited about many of the changes we are making in addition to our normal preparations for the season," said Brian DeWine, president of the Tourists. "The response to our new logos and caps continues to be outstanding. There's a lot of positive energy taking place around the ballpark, and we're looking forward to incorporating our fans into the process as the season draws nearer."

Mr. Moon and Ted E. Tourist will be among those in attendance when the Tourists open their 2011 home slate at McCormick Field on April 15th against the Lexington Legends. Season ticket packages are still available at the McCormick Field box office. For more information, contact the Tourists front office at (828) 258-0428.
