Mets Announce 2011 Coaching Staff

Port St. Lucie, Fla. - The St. Lucie Mets announced today that Pedro Lopez will manage the Mets for their 2011 Florida State League campaign. Last year, Lopez led the Savannah Sand Gnats to a 75-64 record including a first half division title in the South Atlantic League. Prior to managing the Sand Gnats, Lopez led the Brooklyn Cyclones of the New York - Penn League to a 45-30 record including a division title in 2009. He also managed the Kingsport Mets of the Appalachian League in 2008.

Lopez will be joined by St. Lucie veterans, Phil Regan and George Greer. Regan will enter his third year as pitching coach for the St. Lucie Mets. Regan was the pitching coach for the Cleveland Indians in 1999 and served in the same role for the Chicago Cubs in 1997 and 1998. He managed the Baltimore Orioles to a 71-73 record during the strike-shortened 1995 season.

George Greer returns for his third season as hitting coach for St. Lucie. He begins his sixth season in the Mets organization which includes manager for the Brooklyn Cyclones in 2006 along with coaching stops in Kingsport in 2007 and Savannah in 2008. He began his coaching career in 1972, creating a baseball program at the UCONN - Avery Point campus.

Joel Fuentes rounds out the 2011 coaching staff. Fuentes returns to St. Lucie where he coached in 2008. This will be his fifth year in the Mets organization, serving as coach of the Brooklyn Cyclones for the past two years and served in the same role for the Savannah Sand Gnats in 2007.

Jake Henderson returns as the strength and conditioning coach. This will be his fifth season in the Mets organization. He was the strength and conditioning coach for the Brooklyn Cyclones for the 2008 and 2009 seasons and for the Kingsport Mets in 2007.

Deb Iwanow was named athletic trainer for the St. Lucie Mets 2011 season. Iwanow was the athletic trainer for the Brooklyn Cyclones the past two seasons and served in the same role for the Kingsport Mets from 2006 - 2008.
