Phillies Triple-A Wins Second Straight, 8-1

March 20, 2016

The Phillies Triple-A Spring Training squad (2-2) notched their second straight win with an 8-1 victory over the Pirates team on Sunday afternoon.

OF Cameron Perkins (3-4, 2B, 3 RBI), OF Andrew Pullin (3-3, RBI) and INF Taylor Featherston (2-4, 2B, 2 R) all had multi-hit efforts on the afternoon for the Phillies side.

Perkins played the entire 2015 season for Reading (AA) and hit .252-11-51 to go along with 25 doubles in 100 G. The Indianapolis, Ind., native was a sixth round pick of the Phillies out of Purdue University in 2012.

On the mound, RHP Mark Appel (4.0 IP, 2 H, 3 K) got the start and tossed four shutout innings for the Phillies squad. In relief, RHP Gregory Infante (1.0 IP, K), RHP Greg Burke (1.0 IP), LHP Edgar Ibarra (1.0 IP, 2 H, K) and LHP Jeremy Bleich (1.0 IP) all had scoreless outings.

Appel-a former No.1 overall pick by the Astros in 2013- was acquired by the Phillies as part of the Ken Giles trade in December. The right-hander split 2015 between Double-A Corpus Christi (5-1, 4.26 in 13 GS) and Triple-A Fresno (5-2, 4.48 in 12 GS).

The Phillies Triple-A Spring Training squad will be in action Monday afternoon when they host the Pirates team. First pitch from the Carpenter Complex in Clearwater is slated for 1:00 p.m.
