OKC Dodgers and SONIC Present "Reading for the Stars"
OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Dodgers and SONIC ® are encouraging local students to "read for the stars" with the launch of the new SONIC Reading Program.
Students in grades K-12 can begin to log their reading at okcdodgers.com/reading. There will be three entry periods throughout the course of the season, ending on April 22, May 25, and July 8. Requirements to participate in the SONIC Reading Program are as follows:
- Grades K-5: 20 minutes, five times per week
- Grades 6-8: 45 minutes, five times per week
- Grades 9-12: 60 minutes, five times per week
Students who complete the requirements will need to turn in reading logs to the OKC Dodgers by mailing them to the ballpark, via email ([email protected]), or by dropping them off at the OKC Dodgers Team Store at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Reading logs are available for download at okcdodgers.com/reading.
"We know there are great student readers in central Oklahoma, and SONIC wants to celebrate them," said Christi Woodworth, Vice President of Public Relations for SONIC. "We're looking forward to a great partnership with the Dodgers to focus on the importance of continuing reading throughout the summer for students."
The OKC Dodgers and SONIC will select 10 winners throughout the 2016 baseball season to receive VIP treatment at an OKC Dodgers game, including:
- Private, catered suite for up to 16 people
- VIP parking
- Early admittance to Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark for a behind-the-scenes tour
- Ceremonial first pitch
- In-game recognition
- OKC Dodgers and SONIC prize pack
"Along with our partners at SONIC, we want to encourage students to continue their education outside of the classroom," said OKC Dodgers President/General Manager Michael Byrnes. "We feel this is a great way to positively impact the community and focus on our future generation."
