Derek Jeter was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 1st Round (6th overall) of the 1992 MLB June Amateur Draft. From 1993-1996, he was rated as a top prospect by Baseball America. Jeter spent most of 1994 season with the Tampa Yankees, and played one game with them in 2000 on a rehab assignment. Jeter has been a full time member of the Major League Club since 1996, with a 15 game stint in 1995.

During Jeter's time with the Tampa Yankees, he showed a lot of skill and promise and quickly climbed through the rankings. He spent 69 games with the T-Yanks in 1994 and totaled 292 at-bats. He had 96 hits, 61 runs, and 39 RBI. He stole 28 bases and was caught stealing only twice. At shortstop, Jeter maintained a .961 fielding percentage, with 204 assists. He was then promoted to Double-A for 34 games, and progressed to Triple-A for the remainder of the 1994 season.

Including his brief stint in 1995 Jeter has spent a total of 16 seasons with the New York Yankees and will go down as one of the all time greats. Up to this point in his career he has played in 2,280 games, has 2,926 hits in 9,332 at-bats, and hit 234 homeruns. He's driven in 1,128 RBI, and stolen 323 bases. He has appeared in 14 post-seasons, and is a member of five World Series teams. In his 16 seasons, he's maintained a fielding percentage .976.

Jeter is no stranger to the spot light and has been recognized many times for his achievements on and off the field. In 1996 Jeter was named the American League Rookie of the Year, in 2000 he was awarded the All Star MVP, the American League Babe Ruth Award, and the World Series MVP, in 2006 and 2009 he walked away with the Hank Aaron award, and finally in 2009 he received the Major League Roberto Clemente Award.

Off the diamond, Jeter helps promote a healthy lifestyle free of alcohol and drugs. He has created a charitable organization called the Turn Two Foundation. To date Jeter's foundation has awarded more than $11 million in grants to programs in the New York City, West Michigan, and Tampa, Fla., areas.

Jeter just signed a new contract this past off-season, giving Yankees fans the privilege of watching him put on the pinstripes until at least the 2014 season.
