Shuckers announce enhanced fan safety measures at MGM Park

Protective netting to be installed in compliance with MLB recommendations
March 23, 2016

BILOXI, MS - The Biloxi Shuckers, in accordance with recommendations issued by Major League Baseball, are extending the protective netting behind home plate to cover the seating area behind both dugouts at MGM Park for the 2016 season.

Major League Baseball Commissioner Robert D. Manfred released Major League Baseball's recommendation to extend protective netting to the end of the dugouts. This was also endorsed by Pat O'Conner, President of Minor League Baseball.

"Fan safety is of the utmost importance to us and we support the Commissioner's recommendations," said Biloxi Shuckers president Ken Young. "The fan experience is also very important, and a major part of that experience is safety. We fully believe this extension allows fans who are sitting closest to home plate with the least amount of reaction time to be in a safe environment, while still enjoying all facets of a Shuckers game. As we all know, there are still inherent risks associated with attending baseball games. People still need to pay attention."

On Tuesday, the team began contacting its season ticket holders to educate them about these fan safety improvements.

The netting will now extend to the outside ends of each dugout. The netting, which is currently in front of sections 100-102, and parts of sections 103 and 104 directly behind home plate, will now extend through sections 107 and 108.

The Biloxi Shuckers will welcome the Milwaukee Brewers to MGM Park on Saturday, April 2, for an exhibition game at 1:10 pm. Tickets remain and can be purchased by visiting the MGM Park box office, by clicking here, or any Ticketmaster outlet. The Shuckers open the regular season with a seven-game homestand at MGM Park from April 7-11 against Chattanooga and Mobile.
