CHARLESTON, SC - In an era where the U.S. military has a heightened domestic and global importance, the Charleston RiverDogs and Force Protection Industries, Inc. have once again partnered in an effort to emphasize that very point.

The two Lowcountry leaders are joining forces for the sixth consecutive year to help entertain and inform Lowcountry residents and visitors by promoting Joint Base Charleston and raising funds to benefit military personnel.

Force Protection Industries, Inc., located on Highway 78 in Ladson, has evolved as the nation's leading center for blast technology and counter improvised explosive device (IED) research as they design, manufacture, test, deliver and support blast- and mine-protected vehicles around the world.

"It is a natural fit," said RiverDogs general manager Dave Echols.  "Force Protection is a leader in manufacturing military vehicles, and baseball has always taken pride in supporting the military.  We're fans of each other in the commitment to our military and look forward to a successful promotion where we can continue to recognize the brave men, women and families of our armed forces here in Charleston and around the world."

"Force Protection is proud to continue its special relationship with the Charleston RiverDogs," said Tommy Pruitt, Force's Senior Director of Communication.  "We are also very proud to partner with Joint Base Charleston in support of the military this season.  We look forward to seeing many of our local military heroes at The Joe and invite everyone to come and check out some of our newest vehicles and support the men and women of Joint Base Charleston on Red Shirt Fridays and Military Appreciation Nights during the 2011 season."

As part of every Friday night's home games throughout the season, "Force Protection Red Shirt Fridays" have evolved into one of the week's highlights, as the RiverDogs' players and coaches wear red jersey tops for every Friday home game.  Those jerseys are then put up for auction at the conclusion of the season, with the proceeds benefitting military families with loved ones serving overseas.

Additionally, RiverDogs fans have come to enjoy saving $1 off the walkup price for a Friday night game ticket, and they have the option of donating that dollar to Charleston Area Service Men and Women.  Force Protection Industries, Inc. also places of one of their armored vehicles in front of Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park for observation.

The Joint Base Charleston community encompasses more than 20,000 active-duty, reserve and civilian personnel, spanning across its Air Base and Weapons Station.  Joining with the local community and their representatives, and the Department of Defense believe Joint Basing is the stepping stone to making Charleston a Joint Logistics, Transportation and Engineering hub and the worldwide leader in moving people, vehicles, munitions and supplies via air, land, sea and rail.

Unique with more than 53 tenants, Joint Team Charleston is comprised of Air Force, Navy, Army, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Homeland Security and other Department of Defense missions - all working together in the global fight against terrorism and for the spread of world peace.
