Jamey Newberg’s profile on Wilmer Font:
Wilmer Font, RHP

The big righthander had flashes of brilliance in 2010, a season during which he was promoted from Low A to High A before his 20th birthday. In the three starts he made for Bakersfield immediately after turning 20, he gave up one earned run on 13 hits and five walks in 19 innings in the hitter-friendly Cal League, punching out 19. Font struck out 85 hitters in 78.2 innings between his two stops, but he began to lose command at mid-season, and was shut down early in July with arm discomfort. Ultimately it was determined that the Venezuelan had a torn elbow ligament, and he'll miss the 2011 season due to Tommy John surgery.
