Eduardo Nunez was signed by the New York Yankees as an amateur free agent in 2004. He wore the T-Yanks uniform for parts of the 2006, 2007, and 2008 seasons.
In 2006, Nunez played in 37 games. In 147 at-bats he totaled 27 hits, 17 runs, four homeruns, and 26 RBI. In 2007, he played in 30 games and had 123 at-bats. He had 13 RBI, 35 hits and 16 runs with a batting average of .285. Nunez spent the entire 2008 season with Tampa and played in 94 games. In his 373 at-bats he recorded 101 hits, six homeruns, 42 RBI, and a .271 batting average.
Nunez played shortstop all three seasons while with the Tampa Yankees and he totaled some good defensive numbers. In 2006, he recorded 95 assists and had a .910 fielding percentage. His fielding percentage increased to .955 in 2007 and in 2008 he had 267 assists and a .952 fielding percentage. In 2010, Nunez got the call to the Big Leagues and appeared in 30 games with the New York Yankees. Nunez was used as a utility infielder and played 2nd base, 3rd base, and shortstop. He recorded his first Major League homerun on August 28, 2010, and finished with a .280 batting average.
Nunez will continue to work hard this spring in hopes of landing a spot on the New York Yankees roster.
