Eleven area high schools will play at Werner Park beginning Friday, April 8
March 18, 2011
OMAHA, Neb. - When the Omaha Storm Chasers play host to the Nashville Sounds on Opening Night, April 15, it will actually be the fourth baseball game contested at brand-new Werner Park. Beginning with a Friday, April 8 doubleheader, eleven area high schools will call the Storm Chasers' new ballpark home.

The high school games will serve as a soft opening for the ballpark, with a full staff and full Minor League operation serving as a backdrop for the high school action. Friday's doubleheader will open with a 4:30 p.m. contest between the Papillion-La Vista Monarchs and the Papillion-La Vista South Titans, followed by a 7:00 p.m. game between Papillion-La Vista South and the Creighton Prep Junior Jays.

"With Werner Park, we now have a tremendous opportunity to host community-based events such as high school baseball," said Martie Cordaro, the Storm Chasers Vice President and General Manager. "We look forward to hosting many types of sporting and non-sporting events in the future."

The games will give the Storm Chasers an opportunity to test out the full video and sound operation, put on the full spectrum of between-inning promotions and open concessions and restrooms for a large crowd. In turn, it will be a chance for many local high school kids to play in a professional ballpark for the first time.

"We are extremely excited and appreciative of the Storm Chasers for giving us this opportunity to play in the first game ever at Werner Park," said Chuck Johnston, Athletics/Activities Director at Papillion-La Vista High School. "The Papillion-La Vista schools community is honored and I know fans of both schools will come out to support these games and this new era of baseball in Sarpy County."
