Padres announce 2016 Storm roster

Six top prospects among 25 players starting '16 in Lake Elsinore
April 3, 2016

LAKE ELSINORE, CA - The San Diego Padres have announced the Opening Day roster for the 2016 Lake Elsinore Storm. The group features six of San Diego's Top 30 Prospects, including highly-touted shortstop Javier Guerra (Baseball America #1 Padres prospect, MLB.com #2). Seven players who previously wore The Eyes in 2015 will return to The Diamond this year as well.

The 2016 roster is made up of 25 players from eight states/territories and five countries, with players ranging in age from 18 to 25. With a near even mix of right handers and lefties both on the mound and in the batter's box, the 2016 Lake Elsinore Storm will look to capture the franchise's fourth league title in what will be its 23rd season.

Steering the club will be second-year skipper Francisco Morales, who made his managerial debut last year with the Fort Wayne TinCaps (Low-A). With "Mo" at the helm, the TinCaps rebounded from a 32-36 first half by posting a 45-25 record after the All-Star Break, clinching the Midwest League's Eastern Division before being swept out of the playoffs in the first round. The San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic native joined the Padres organization in 2014 as the hitting coach for Double-A San Antonio. Morales will be the 13th manager in Storm history.

Fans can meet the entire 2016 roster on Tuesday, April 5 at 5:30pm as part of the Meet The Team Dinner. To RSVP by Monday, April 3 at 3pm, email [email protected] or click HERE.

The Storm will start the 2016 season on the road, visiting the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes for a four-game weekend series beginning Thursday, April 7. The #StormAllStarSummer kicks-off a week later, as #LifeAtTheDiamond returns on Thursday, April 14 at The Diamond in Lake Elsinore. Gates open at 5pm for a special "Happy Hour (and a half)" before first pitch at 6:30pm. TICKETS.
