Reds option Peraza to Triple-A Louisville

Organization's No. 5 prospect to get regular playing time with Bats
April 3, 2016

The Reds finalized their Opening Day roster on Sunday, optioning infielder/outfielder Jose Peraza -- their No. 5 prospect -- to Triple-A Louisville.

The move, according to Reds manager Bryan Price, has more to do with getting the 21-year-old regular playing time than it does with his performance.

"Push comes to shove, he wasn't going to get six starts a week," Price told the Cincinnati Enquirer. "There wasn't any way to do that at this level. We just want him to be ready, and I think everyone agrees he's a big-league player."

The Reds are the third organization that MLB.com's No. 71 overall prospect has played for in his brief career. Peraza was signed by the Braves as an international free agent in 2010, then traded to the Dodgers as part of a three-team swap last July 30. Five months later, the Venezuela native was part of another three-team trade, this time moving to Cincinnati in the package that sent Todd Frazier to the White Sox.

Peraza can play second base, shortstop and center field. He spent most of last season at Triple-A, posting a .293/.316/.378 slash line in 118 games between Gwinnett and Oklahoma City. He was called up by the Dodgers in August and batted .182 with an RBI and three stolen bases in seven games.
