Kyle Wiltjer to Throw Out First Pitch on Thursday

Former UK Basketball Star Will Attend Hot Rods Season Opener
April 4, 2016

Bowling Green, KY - To bring in the Hot Rods 2016 season opener at Bowling Green Ballpark on Thursday, former University of Kentucky basketball star Kyle Wiltjer will throw out the ceremonial first pitch while also taking part in other opening night festivities.

Wiltjer, a former McDonalds All-American and one of the most prized recruits to play for future hall-of-fame coach John Calipari, was a member of the Wildcats team that won the 2012 National Championship. In his second and final year with the program, Wiltjer was named the SEC's Sixth Man of the Year.

After he sat out a season due to NCAA transfer rules, Wiltjer continued his college career and played his final two years of college basketball at Gonzaga University. With the Bulldogs, Wiltjer earned First Team All-WCC accolades two years in a row and was a finalist for the Naismith Award which recognizes the nation's top collegiate basketball player this past season.

Wiltjer is expected to be selected in the 2016 NBA Draft.

In addition to throwing out the first pitch prior to the start of the game, Wiltjer will help lead a silent auction throughout the game. The auction will feature five pieces of historic University of Kentucky basketball memorabilia. Proceeds of the auction will go towards Junior Achievement.

Fans will also be able to get autographs from Wiltjer throughout the game. Prices for an autograph will be $15 and two for $25.

The Hot Rods open their eighth season in Southcentral Kentucky with game one of a two-game series against the Dayton Dragons on Thursday. The first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a Rally Towel courtesy of Reinhart Foodservice and all fans will be able to enjoy another fun season of "Thirsty Thursdays" presented by Mountain Dew.

Select tickets for opening night are still available. You can purchase tickets online, by going to the Hot Rods box office or by calling (270) 901-2121. First pitch on Thursday is set for 6:35 p.m.
