Hot Rods Join Junior Achievement for Thrills & Skills Experience
The Hot Rods are teaming up with Junior Achievement of South Central Kentucky and Wendy's to bring the Junior Achievement Thrills and Skills Experience presented by Wendy's to Bowling Green Ballpark.
The event will take place on Saturday, April 16 for boys and girls ages 5-18 during the season-opening weekend at Bowling Green Ballpark. For a participation fee of $25, kids will have the opportunity to work with Hot Rods players and coaches as well as professional instructors from Total Fitness Connection and Doyle Baseball. Two sessions are available to accommodate youth schedules, 9 - 11 AM and 12 - 2 PM. During each session the participants will rotate through six stations working on baseball and softball skills such as fielding, base running, hitting, throwing, catching, agility and pitching.
As the youth work on their skills, they will get the thrill of hitting in the minor league batting cages, warming up in a professional bullpen and running the bases on a minor league field. During the hour break between sessions, the kids can get autographs from Hot Rods players, meet and greet the mascots, Axle, Roscoe, and Wendy, and enjoy the speed pitch and inflatable area. Stadium concessions will be available and parents are invited to stay and watch their kids participate.
To continue the field of dreams experience, each participant will receive a free ticket to that night's Hot Rods game at 7 PM featuring the first fireworks show of the season. Participants also receive a ticket to the 3 PM WKU Hilltoppers vs. Arkansas State baseball game at Nick Denes Field. Participants will also receive an event t-shirt and special recognition at both games.
Junior Achievement will also recognize the 2011 JA Teacher and Volunteer of the Year at the start of the Hot Rods game that evening and will hold a silent auction of baseball-related items and tickets.
Junior Achievement provides business education and workforce readiness programs to K-12 students in the southern Kentucky region. "We are thrilled to join with the Bowling Green Hot Rods and Wendy's in this unique experience for kids that will help raise funds for our programs," said Heather Rogers, president of Junior Achievement of South Central Kentucky. "As the Hot Rods bring fun, family entertainment to our community, their fans will be able to benefit JA's economics, business and entrepreneurship programs to help us reach more students in our area."
