Tides announce Opening Day roster
The Norfolk Tides and their parent club, the Baltimore Orioles, have announced the Tides Opening Day roster for the 2016 season. The roster features 12 pitchers and 13 position players, and the team will once again be managed by Ron Johnson. Joining Johnson are Pitching Coach Mike Griffin, Hitting Coach Sean Berry, Field Coach Jose Hernandez, Athletic Trainer Mark Shires and Strength and Conditioning Coach Trevor Howell.
Norfolk's pitching staff will consist of starters Odrisamer Despaigner (slated to take the mound in tonight's opener vs. Gwinnett), Nick Additon and Todd Redmond. Norfolk's relievers include Pedro Beato, Cesar Cabral, Oliver Drake, Andy Oliver, Edgar Olmos, Zach Phillips, Richard Rodriguez, Chaz Roe and Jason Stoffel.
The Tides Opening Day roster features five infielders: Michael Almanzar, Paul Janish, Ozzie Martinez, Joey Terdoslavich and Steve Tolleson. Manning the outfield for Norfolk will be Dariel Alvarez, Xavier Avery, L.J. Hoes, Alfredo Marte, Henry Urrutia and Christian Walker. The Tides will open the season with two catchers: Francisco Pena and Audry Perez.
Three players will open the season on Norfolk's disabled list: pitchers Nate Adcock (right elbow), Jeff Beliveau (left shoulder) and Sam Deduno (right hip).
The Tides open their 2016 campaign tonight vs. the Gwinnett Braves, with first pitch from Harbor Park slated for 7:05 pm. The game can be heard live on ESPN Radio 94.1 and watched live on MiLB.tv. The first 10,000 fans will receive a 2016 schedule magnet, courtesy of John's Tax Service.
