Dragons Partner With Community Blood Center
Community Blood Center will be "going Dragons green" during the 2011 baseball season working with the Dragons to reward and attract more local donors. CBC aims to utilize the vast outreach and resources of the Dragons to recruit more donors and make blood donation a fun and positive experience. The first scheduled blood donation campaign is underway. It includes the opportunity to receive a special, limited edition Dragons/Community Blood Center "Step Up to the Plate, Donate!" t-shirt when registering to donate blood at most CBC blood drives and all branch locations.
In addition, Dragons mascot Heater will be at CBC-Dayton, 349 S. Main St., at 10:00am on March 31st to donate his green blood as he kick starts the campaign.
Healthy donors can give blood every eight weeks, and they will want to donate this summer. Each month, the special, limited edition t-shirt design will feature a new Dragons logo.
To meet patients' needs for blood, Community Blood Center requires approximately 400 donors every day. Last year, thousands of patients were helped with more than 79,000 local donations of blood from volunteer donors. Statistics show that every two seconds, someone across the United States needs blood.
"Summer is a challenging time for the blood supply as student donors are on break and CBC's regular donors get busy with seasonal activities and vacations. CBC encourages you to be a summer lifesaver and donate blood!" said Jodi Minneman, chief operating officer of blood services. "We are pleased to partner with the Dragons to make 2011 a unique and fun year."
Donors are required to provide a photo ID that includes their full name. Past CBC donors are also asked to bring their CBC donor ID card. Donors must be at least 16 years of age (16 years old with parental consent: form available at www.givingblood.org or at CBC branch & blood drive locations), weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, and be in good physical health.
Community Blood Center was founded in September 1964 in the basement of the Fidelity Medical Building on South Main Street in Dayton. It was born out of a serious need for a centralized system of blood banking to effectively serve patient blood needs. In 1964, CBC served two Dayton area hospitals, and by 1965 it had expanded to serving the blood needs of all general hospitals in Dayton. Since 1967, CBC has grown to its present service area of 24 hospitals in 15 counties with an all volunteer donor base.
Community Blood Center/Community Tissue Services™, an independent, not-for-profit organization, is registered to ISO 9001:2000.
