Attleboro Boy is First Selectee for PawSox Lunch Box Program
The Pawtucket Red Sox have made their first selection in their new PawSox Lunch Box program, in which a child gets to select a friend to join him or her for lunch in the Owners Box at McCoy Stadium, then chat with a PawSox player.
Sam Bloch, a 14-year-old from nearby Attleboro, MA, wrote in his essay, "I had my heart set on this challenge since I read the description, which was about 5 minutes ago. I couldn't forget this big opportunity, so I'm writing this essay at 5:30 in the morning.
"I've been a die hard baseball fan since I was 3. I play AAU for the Attleboro Badgers, and I watch any game I can find. I've been to about 8 Red Sox games and about 13 PawSox games, both of which may not be exact because I lost count.
"I also have a score book in which I keep close-to-official scores of all the games I've gone to since a Boston game when I was about 8.
"I'm the most die hard Boston and Pawtucket fan you will ever meet.
"I also want to do this for my brother. He would be my tag along before I even thought about it. We have one of the closest sibling relationships you'll ever find. We do close to everything together. He's 11, and will be 12 by the time we will have hopefully won this contest. He also plays for the Badgers and he is also a die hard Boston and Pawtucket fan.
"I would love to see his face talking to a player or the owner. He does have one of the most adorable faces ever. It's hilarious.
"This would be one of the coolest things to ever happen to either of us, and as time goes on and our time on earth gets shorter, I would love to share an unforgettable moment like this with my amazing brother.
"Thank you so much for reading all that, whoever read this.
"P. S. Hope it wasn't too much to read."
Bloch, an 8th grader at Wamsutta Middle School, is set to visit McCoy with his family on Saturday afternoon, May 7. They will then be the PawSox' guests for that evening's 6:05 p.m. game against the Rochester Red Wings.
Their visit will include a tour of McCoy Stadium, including its Hall of History, then lunch in the Owners' Suite, and finally a chat with a PawSox player.
Young fans 9-14 are still welcome to submit their essays of any length, explaining why they should participate in the PawSox Lunch Box program. Submissions can be emailed to [email protected].
