Tribe Blanked by Mud Hens, 3-0
TOLEDO, Ohio (April 12, 2016) - Michael Fulmer struck out seven batters in his Triple-A debut to help lead the Toledo Mud Hens to a 3-0 shutout victory over the Indianapolis Indians. Alen Hanson collected two hits in the loss for the Tribe.
Fulmer (1-0) only issued two free passes and a pair of hits before exiting in the sixth inning. The Mud Hens bullpen quartet of Drake Britton, Michael Crotta, Bobby Parnell, and Bruce Rondon clinched the shutout.
Steven Brault (0-1) worked four innings for the Tribe, but earned a tough-luck loss. He allowed two runs on four hits. Like Fulmer, Brault was making his Triple-A debut.
Dixon Machado reached base three times and scored on each occasion. He stole home in the bottom of the first to put the Mud Hens on the board, and would later score on a pair of separate hits from Steven Moya and Casey McGehee.
Hanson amassed a bunt-single as well as a slap hit to pace the Indians offense. Indianapolis threatened and brought the tying run to the plate in the sixth and eighth frames, but could not strike against the Toledo pitching staff.
The Indians will conclude their brief two-day stay in Toledo with a 6:35 p.m. matchup on Wednesday night. They'll then head back home to Victory Field for the 2016 home opener on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m.
