The first inning, Daren Seferina stared things off with a single to right and stole second on the very next at bat. Diekroeger then came up and to bat and hit a single to center allowing Seferina to come home and score.

Gomber ending up getting in some situations throughout the next four innings, but would pitch his way around them, getting to seven strike outs in just five innings of work. Cody Schumacher would relieve Gomber in the sixth.

Schumacher ended up having the bases loaded in the sixth with only one away, but got Chris Tromp to strike out swinging and induced an inning ending ground out to second baseman, Seferina. Schumacher then got through the seventh unscathed.

Silfredo Garcia came on to pitch in the eighth inning for Schumacher and got three quick outs in the eight. In the bottom of the eighth, Allen Staton and Orlando Olivera both hit one out singles, but the Cardinals could not get them across.

The ninth got shaky for Garcia as the first batter, Blake Butler, reached on a single and advanced to second thanks to a passed ball.
