Mike Zunino Named PCL Player Of The Week
TACOMA, Wash. -- Tacoma Rainiers catcher Mike Zunino has been named the Pacific Coast League Player of the Week for April 7-17, the league office announced today.
Zunino, 25, notched a hit in all eight games he played in, hitting .441 (15x34) with nine runs, three doubles, four home runs, and 11 RBI. The Gainesville, Florida native hit home runs in four consecutive games from April 13-17, marking the first time in his career he has accomplished that feat.
Through 10 games, Zunino's .441 batting average ranks as the second best performance in the PCL. He is also among the top five players in the league in slugging percentage (first, .882), extra base hits (tied-first, 7), home runs (tied-first, 4), total bases (second, 30), and hits (tied-third, 15).
His current eight-game hitting streak is tied for the second longest in the PCL this year, and his longest since a 10-game hitting streak with Seattle from July 20-31, 2015.
Zunino is the first Rainiers player to earn a PCL weekly honor since right-hander Chien-Ming Wang was named PCL Pitcher of the Week for Aug. 10-16, 2015. He is also the first Tacoma position player to earn a weekly award since Nick Franklin was selected PCL Player of the Week for April 22-28, 2013.
