Cardullo Leads Isotopes to Seventh Straight Win

April 20, 2016

Stephen Cardullo collected three hits today including a go-ahead single in the ninth to lead the Albuquerque Isotopes (12-6) to a 6-5 win over the Las Vegas 51s (6-10) at Cashman Field.

The victory extends the Isotopes' winning streak to seven games, the club's longest since they also won seven-in-a-row on June 13-19, 2013.

The 51s took an early 1-0 lead in the opening frame and had a chance for another run, but Cardullo, playing left field, threw out Las Vegas' Roger Bernadina trying to score from second base. Jordan Patterson evened the score at one in the third with a RBI single. Joey Wong led off the fourth inning with a single and later came around to score on Rafael Ynoa's hit through the right side to put the Isotopes ahead 2-1. Nick Hundley increased the lead to 3-1 in the sixth with a two-out RBI single. Hundley finished the day going 1-for-3 with a walk in his second rehab game with the Isotopes.

The 51s scored one run in the bottom of the sixth, before Albuquerque scored two in the top of the eighth thanks to Mike Tauchman's two-run single. Las Vegas responded in the bottom half of the inning by scoring three runs to tie the game at 5-5. The Isotopes' ninth inning started with Patterson hitting a lead-off triple to deep center. The next batter was Cardullo who came through with a line drive single to right field to bring home the go-ahead run.

Reliever Sam Moll earned his first win of 2016 for Albuquerque, while Simon Castro picked up the save. Jeff Hoffman recorded his third quality start of the season, allowing just two runs in six innings of work. Albuquerque native Austin House made his Isotopes debut by pitching a scoreless seventh inning with two strikeouts, before allowing three runs in the eighth.

The Isotopes will go for their eighth consecutive win tomorrow evening against the 51s. Manager Glenallen Hill will hand the ball to Shane Carle (2-1, 8.44), while left-hander Duane Below (1-0, 4.50) will get the start for Las Vegas. The game is slated to get underway from Cashman Field at 8:05 p.m.
