Toca's six runs beat SkyChiefs

Knight cracks grand slam, provides for all Charlotte's scoring

Jorge Toca hit a grand slam and knocked in all six runs, leading Charlotte over Syracuse, 6-5, on Sunday evening at Alliance Bank Stadium.

Toca's third-inning slam gave the Knights a 4-1 lead, and his two-run double in the fourth made it 6-1. He was 3-for-5. Leo Daigle went 3-for-4 with two doubles, and Scott Bikowski was 3-for-5 with a double and scored twice.

Jon Adkins (4-8) picked up the win, permitting three runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings. He walked four and struck out two.

Josue Matos (5-4) took the loss after being roughed up for six runs on 10 hits and a walk in 3 2/3 innings.

Syracuse rallied for four runs over the fifth, sixth and seventh innings. Julius Matos, Danny Solano and Guillermo Quiroz each had two hits, and Anton French went 3-for-5 with a triple.

Jeff Bajenaru, the fifth Knights pitcher, fanned two in a perfect ninth to earn his 14th save and lower his ERA to 1.17.

The Knights (36-65) snapped a three-game losing streak to climb out of a tie with Richmond for last place in the Southern Division. The SkyChiefs (51-51) saw their three-game winning streak come to an end.
