Winning Streak Stopped in Lancaster
Lancaster, CA - The Lancaster JetHawks kept the red-hot Rancho Cucamonga offense in check on Wednesday evening, taking a 6-3 decision over the Quakes at The Hangar in Lancaster.
After setting season-highs in hits in consecutive games, the Quakes were held to just nine hits, as they saw their three-game winning streak come to an end.
Quakes' starter Tommy Bergjans (1-1) struggled a bit, allowing four runs on six hits, walking three over five innings in the loss.
Rancho smacked a total of ten homers in the three-game series in Lancaster, with Yusniel Diaz going deep in all three games, including a solo shot on Wednesday. Johan Mieses chipped in for Rancho's only other runs on Wednesday, as his two-run shot made it a 5-3 game in the 8th.
The JetHawks got an insurance run in the bottom of the 8th against Alexander Burgos, taking a 6-3 advantage.
The Quakes went 1-2-3 in the ninth against Riley Ferrell, who earned his third save of the year.
JetHawks' starter Evan Grills (1-0) was efficient, as he allowed just one run on five hits over five innings to net the win.
The Quakes (9-5) return to LoanMart Field on Thursday, opening a four-game set against the Visalia Rawhide. Josh Sborz (0-1) will take on Visalia lefty Josh Taylor (0-1) in the series-opener at 7:05pm.
