Staten Island Yankees (New York Yankees)
Last Week: 4-2; Overall: 20-10
Staten Island started off the week on fire but dropped its last two games. The Yankees swept a three-game series from Jamestown, outscoring the Jammers, 25-8. James Conroy (4-1) picked up his team-leading fourth victory on Tuesday with three innings of relief in a 12-3 win. First baseman Kyle Larsen batted 9-for-25 (.360) with two homers and nine RBIs.
Williamsport Crosscutters (Pittsburgh Pirates)
Last week: 6-0; Overall: 20-12
The Crosscutters have been the hottest team in the New York-Penn League over the past two weeks with 12 straight victories. Williamsport has outscored its opponents, 61-25, during the streak, limiting opponents to four runs or fewer per game. Derek Antelo (5-2) and Luis Munoz (5-1) each picked up their fifth wins to share the team lead.
Brooklyn Cyclones (New York Mets)
Last week: 5-1; Overall: 19-12
The Cylones won a season-high six straight last week, including a three-game sweep over Stedler Division leaders Oneonta. Warner Mateo (3-1) lowered his ERA to 1.88 in an 11-1 win over Jamestown on Friday. First baseman Nicholas Evans batted 11-for-25 (.440) with two homers and 14 RBIs.
Hudson Valley Renegades (Tampa Bay Devil Rays)
Last week: 2-4; Overall: 14-16
Hudson Valley has been plagued by the inconsistency bug, not winning more than two in a row all season. Closer Derek Feldkamp recorded his team-leading seventh save in a 6-3 win over Batavia. The Renegades were outhit 36-25 in their three losses.
New Jersey Cardinals (St.Louis Cardinals)
Last week: 3-3; Overall: 15-17
After losing a season-high four in a row, the Cardinals turned things around on Wednesday with an 8-4 win over Auburn, and have won three of their last four. The club collected a blistering 17 hits against Vermont in a 10-1 win on Saturday. Center fielder Yonathan Sivira batted 12-for-27 (.444) with five RBIs. Starter Nicholas Webber (3-1) leads staff with a 1.85 ERA.
Aberdeen IronBirds (Baltimore Orioles)
Last week: 2-4; Overall: 11-20
The IronBirds have won their three of their last four series, but were just 2-4 last week. The team gave up 34 runs in those four losses. Radhames Liz (3-2) won his team-leading third game on Tuesday, a 4-2 victory over Vermont during which he picked up 15 K's in six innings.
Pinckney Division
Mahoning Valley Scrappers (Cleveland Indians)
Last week: 5-1; Overall: 18-14
After winning four in a row and five of their last six games, the Scrappers moved into first place in the Pinckney Division. Thomas Cowley (2-1), Joe Ness (2-0), Dustin Roddy (2-1), James Deters (2-1) and Kevin Dixon (2-0) all picked up wins last week.
Auburn Doubledays (Toronto Blue Jays)
Last week: 3-3; Overall: 16-17
After starting off the week with two wins, including a 16-9 victory over New Jersey on Monday, the Doubledays went 1-3 in their last four games. Ryan Patterson and Cory Patton share the team lead with seven homers. Last week, the pair combined to go 14-for-43 (.326) with three homers and 12 RBIs. Patton went deep twice in Monday's win.
Jamestown Jammers (Florida Marlins)
Last week: 1-5; Overall: 14-17
It was a rough week for the Jammers, who are on a five-game slide, their longest of the season. During the stretch, Jamestown pitching has allowed a combined 60 hits and 42 runs. The hitting hasn't been much better, as the team is averaging fewer than three runs a game over their last six. James Brauer (2-1) recorded the only victory of the week, a 4-1 win over Hudson Valley on Monday.
Batavia Muckdogs (Philadelphia Phillies)
Last week: 3-3; Overall: 12-18
The Muckdogs remain in the cellar of the Pinckney Division, but are only five games behind first-place Mahoning Valley. Ronald Hill (2-2), Fernando Quijada (1-1) and Clayton Stewart (1-0) each collected victories. Quijada also recorded his team-leading fourth save of the year on Saturday against Hudson Valley. Catcher Lou Marson batted 6-for-17 (.353), bumping his season average up from .286 to .313.
Stedler Division
Oneonta Tigers (Detroit Tigers)
Last week: 1-5; Overall: 18-11
The hottest team in the New York-Penn League entering the week is now one of the coldest. The Tigers lost a season-high five in a row and have seen their first-place lead shrink to 1.5 games. In their only win of the week, a 6-5 victory over New Jersey on Monday, the Tigers' Mark Haske went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a stolen base and Ryan Roberson belted his second homer of the season.
Lowell Spinners (Boston Red Sox)
Last week: 3-3; Overall: 18-14
After taking a three-game series from Batavia last week, the Spinners are within striking distance of first place in the Stedler Division. Brian Marshall (2-0) recorded his first two victories of the season last week, allowing just one earned run over five innings of relief while striking out seven.
Tri-City ValleyCats (Houston Astros)
Last week: 3-3; Overall: 14-16
The ValleyCats lost three straight to Williamsport last week, the first time they've been swept all season, and are two games under .500. However, after winning their first two games against Auburn on Friday and Saturday, the ValleyCats were looking for a sweep of their own on Sunday night. Infielder Patrick Sellers batted a combined 4-for-8 with two homers and four RBIs in wins over the Doubledays.
Vermont Expos (Washington Nationals)
Last week: 1-5; Overall: 8-23
Vermont is resisting looking ahead to August as the Expos went 1-5 and are 6-16 for the month. The Expos gave up 49 runs on 83 hits last week, including 17 hits to New Jersey on Saturday and 18 to Aberdeen on Wednesday. David Trahan (1-0) picked up his first win in relief on Wednesday during a 14-10 victory over Aberdeen.
