Riders holding fan vote for Star Trek-inspired jerseys

Voting open today through Tuesday
April 21, 2016

FRISCO, TEXAS (April 22, 2016) - The Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, are holding a fan vote to determine which Star Trek-inspired jerseys the team will wear on Vulcan Salute to Star Trek night June 11 vs the Midland RockHounds.

Fans will have the choice between two jersey designs: one inspired by the original series and the other modeled after Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Voting is open now through next Tuesday on the team's Facebook and Twitter pages, as well as on RidersBaseball.com. Voting will close at midnight on Tuesday, April 26th. Additionally, one fan who votes for the winning design will be selected to receive a replica of the winning jersey. Fans are encouraged to use the hashtags #TeamSpock (original series) and #TeamPicard (Next Generation) to support their favorite jersey.

The special jerseys will be part of a fun-filled night at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Throughout the evening, various video and music clips from the various renditions of the show will be played, and there will also be a tribute to Leonard Nimoy, the actor who played Spock in the original series. Plus, the LED outfield wall markers will be measured in light years. Fans will also have the opportunity to purchase the player's game-worn jerseys during an in-game silent auction with proceeds benefitting the RoughRiders Foundation.

About the RoughRiders

The Frisco RoughRiders are the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers and play their games at beautiful Dr Pepper Ballpark in Frisco, Texas. The team was founded in 2003 and has finished first among all Double-A franchises in attendance in each of the last 11 seasons (2005-2015). In August 2014, the RoughRiders were purchased by an ownership group led by Chuck Greenberg and Scott Sonju. The new ownership group has spearheaded numerous major franchise improvements, from a completely new team identity to massive additions and upgrades to Dr Pepper Ballpark, including a giant new video board, sound system, sports bar, team store, improved food service and menu, and a complete overhaul of in-game entertainment. The improvements earned the Riders and the City of Frisco "Best Ballpark Renovation" of 2015 by Ballpark Digest in the under $6 million category. More than 130 former RoughRiders players have gone on to play Major League Baseball, including All-Stars Chris Davis, Elvis Andrus, Adrian Gonzalez and Ian Kinsler.
