Former Rider Cody Ege promoted to The Show

2015 Frisco Reliever becomes 141st RoughRider to make Big Leagues
April 24, 2016

CORPUS CHIRSTI, TEXAS (April 24, 2016) - Former RoughRiders reliever Cody Ege made his Major League debut for the Miami Marlins on Saturday. Ege, who pitched for the RoughRiders out of the bullpen in 2015, is the 141st former RoughRiders player to make the big leagues.

Ege, 24, was part of the trade made by the Texas Rangers last July, along with catcher Tomas Telis, to acquire set-up man Sam Dyson. The southpaw from Cherokee, Iowa made 26 appearances for Frisco prior to the trade, posting a miniscule 0.85 ERA, and going 3-2 with a save. In 31.2 innings of work, Ege surrendered only three earned runs and struck out 37 batters, while walking 19.

The southpaw hurler had been working out of the Triple-A New Orleans pen this season, making five outings for the Zephyrs.

In his Major League debut on Saturday, Ege allowed a run on one hit, a triple, and one run in a 7-2 Marlins loss to the San Francisco Giants.

Ege was originally taken by the Rangers in the 15th round of the 2013 draft out of the University of Louisville.

Ege joins Nomar Mazara (2014-2015 with Frisco, debuted with Texas Rangers) and Brett Nicholas (2013, Rangers) as former RoughRiders players to make the Major Leagues this season.

The Riders wrap up their four-game road trip in Corpus Christi this afternoon at 2:05 p.m. at Whataburger Field against the Hooks before returning home on Monday, April 25 to take on the San Antonio Missions in the beginning of an eight-game homestand, which includes Runner-Up Night on April 26. Tickets for all eight games are available now online at RidersBaseball.com, via email at [email protected], over the phone at (972) 731-9200, or in-person at the RoughRiders box office.
