Clippers Make it Four in a Row in 2-0 Win Over Braves

Roberts tosses 7 shutout innings, fans five
April 24, 2016

The only pretty part of Columbus' 2-0 win over Gwinnett (10-8) on Sunday afternoon at Huntington park was the weather, a picture perfect day, and the attendance, a new season-high of 8,585.

The Clippers (9-7) brought home their first run of the game on a broken-bat single to right field by Jesus Aguilar. Colin Cowgill, who moved from second base to third on the play, stayed alert as Braves right fielder Chase d'Arnaud fumbled with the ball in right, allowing him to score.

Robbie Grossman was issued a five pitch walk by Braves reliever Kanekoa Texiera with the bases loaded to make it 2-0, giving Clippers reliever Jeff Johnson plenty of insurance to close out the Gwinnett ninth.

Columbus right-handed starter Will Roberts (2-1) outdueled Gwinett righty Mike Foltynewicz (1-2).

Both pitchers went seven innings, as Roberts issued two walks and struck out five. Foltynewicz walked four Clippers and fanned seven.

The Clippers will look to complete their first three game sweep of the season as they will do battle with the Braves again tomorrow night at 6:35 p.m.

Columbus ace Mike Clevinger (1-0, 4.40 ERA) is expected to toe the rubber against fellow righty Williams Perez.
