April 26, 2016

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Jacksonville Suns (9-11) fell to the Montgomery Biscuits (11-8) by an 11-10 score in the fifth and final game of the series at Riverwalk Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

A Willy Adames walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth was the difference, as the Biscuits won the series by taking three out of five games. Suns reliever Jose Jose (1-3) gave up the homer for the loss, while Biscuits reliever Parker Markel (1-0) pitched a scoreless ninth for the win.

The Suns led early thanks to an RBI single by Austin Dean to give Jacksonville a 1-0 lead in the first. The Biscuits tied the game with a run in the bottom of the inning, before scoring three runs off Suns starter Tim Berry in the second to lead 4-1. Berry lasted an inning and two-thirds in his fourth start of the year, allowing four runs (one earned) on six hits.

The Biscuits added a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a two-run double by Casey Gillaspie to push the lead to 6-1. The Suns bats came alive in the top of the sixth inning. Matt Juengel first cut the deficit to 6-3 with a two-RBI triple. He scored on an RBI groundout to make it 6-4, then Yefri Perez added an RBI single to make it 6-5. Juengel then tied the game in the top of the seventh with a solo homer, his first of the year, to even the score at six.

The Biscuits scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh off Suns reliever Patrick Johnson to take an 8-6 lead to the top of the eighth. With two outs and two men on, Dean delivered a two-RBI double to tie the score at eight. Two batters later, Juengel gave the Suns a 9-8 lead with his RBI single, then Moises Sierra added an RBI single of his own to put Jacksonville on top 10-8.

In the bottom of the eighth with two outs, Biscuits catcher Mike Marjama tied the game with a two-run double to even the score at 10. Jacksonville loaded the bases against Markel in the top of the ninth, but he struck out Brady Shoemaker to end the inning and keep the game tied going to the bottom of the ninth.

Jose struck out the first two batters before giving up the walk-off homer to Adames, who was serving as a pinch-hitter.

Juengel finished his day 3-for-5 with four RBI and was just a double shy of the cycle. Also Dean drove in three runs, and now leads the Southern League with 17 this season.
