Bill Buckner to Make Hadlock Appearance on June 9th

Portland, Maine - Former Red Sox first baseman Bill Buckner is scheduled to make an appearance at Hadlock Field on Thursday, June 9th, when the Sea Dogs host the Bowie Baysox at 7:00 PM. Buckner's appearance is part of the Sea Dogs' Throwback Thursday Series, as the Sea Dogs honor the 30th anniversary of the 1986 American League Champion Boston Red Sox.

Buckner will throw out the ceremonial first pitch and be available to sign free autographs on photos provided by the Sea Dogs for fans from 7:00 to 8:00 PM.

Originally selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers out of high school in the second round of the 1968 amateur draft, Buckner spent 22 seasons in the major leagues and posted a career average of .289 with 2,715 hits, 174 home runs, 498 doubles, 1,208 RBI, 1,077 runs scored, and 450 walks compared to 453 strikeouts in 2,517 career games. An All-Star in 1981 with the Chicago Cubs, he was traded to the Red Sox in May of 1984 and spent parts of five seasons with the Red Sox (1984-87, 90). In 526 career games with Boston, Buckner hit .279 with 48 home runs and 324 RBI. He hit 18 home runs and drove in 102 runs in 1986 and was an integral part in helping guide the Red Sox to an American League pennant.
