Cisnero, Musick combine to silence Mavericks bats

April 8, 2011
Lancaster pitchers Jose Cisnero and Wes Musick combined to limit High Desert to six hits as the JetHawks shut out the Mavericks 5-0 at Clear Channel Stadium Thursday night. Cisnero (1-0) gave up just two hits and matched his career-high with nine strikeouts to earn the victory in his first start with Lancaster. Musick tossed four innings of scoreless relief and picked up his first save in the season.

Jose Altuve ripped a leadoff triple in the bottom of the third inning and Jay Austin followed with an RBI groundout to give the JetHawks a 1-0 lead.

The JetHawks broke the game open with four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Austin Wates belted a solo home run, the first of four straight hits surrendered by Mavericks reliever Daniel Cooper. Jonathan Meyer doubled and Erik Castro followed with an RBI single. After Rene Garcia singled, a throwing error from Vinnie Catricala resulted in two JetHawks runs.

Musick allowed four hits in four innings, but the left-hander struck out five batters with no walks.

With the win, the JetHawks improved to 1-0. The loss dropped High Desert to 0-1.

The JetHawks will seek their second win of the 2011 campaign when the two teams meet in the second game of the four-game series at Clear Channel Stadium Friday. Game time is set for 7 p.m. Right-hander Andrew Robinson gets the start for Lancaster while High Desert is expected to counter with right-hander Taylor Stanton.
