April 29, 2016

FRISCO, TEXAS (April 29, 2016) - The Texas Rangers have announced that outfielder Josh Hamilton will begin a Major League rehabilitation assignment with the Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Rangers, on Saturday, April 30 at 7:05 p.m. when the RoughRiders host the Corpus Christi Hooks at Dr Pepper Ballpark.

Hamilton, 34, is recovering from left knee inflammation and missed all of Spring Training this year before beginning the regular season on the 15-day disabled list.

In his second stint with the Rangers, the 2010 AL MVP and five-time American League All-Star hit .253 for Texas in 50 games last season after coming over in a trade on April 27, 2015. The outfielder hit eight doubles and eight home runs, knocking in 25 runs.

In addition to winning MVP in 2010, Hamilton led the junior circuit in batting average that season and has won the Silver Slugger award three times. Overall, Hamilton has a .290 (1134-for-3909) average with 200 career home runs and 701 RBI in 1027 major league games with the Reds (2007), Rangers (2008-12, '15), and Angels (2013-14).

This will be the fifth rehab stint for Hamilton in Frisco in the last seven years. Hamilton first rehabbed in Frisco in 2009, then in 2011, and twice in 2015. As a Rider, Hamilton is 13-for-31 (.419) with three doubles and two home runs.
