Jensen, James Not Enough To Top Dozier, Miracle

Jupiter falls to 0-2 despite Kyle Jensen's 3-for-4 night
April 8, 2011
For a second straight night, the Hammerheads got a strong pitching performance from their starter and a terrific night at the plate from Kyle Jensen, but once again Jupiter fell to Fort Myers, this time by a 5-1 score.

Jupiter starter Chad James spread seven hits over five innings, allowing them to turn into just two runs. Helping him limit the damage were two pickoffs and a Miguel Fermin throw to third base to catch another runner attempting to steal.

One of the runs came on Brian Dozier's first home run of the season, one of four hits by the Miracle shortstop. Dozier also scored the first and last runs of the night, on base hits by Chris Herrmann and Dan Rohlfing, respectively. In Thursday's Opening Day contest between the two teams, Dozier drove in what proved to be the winning run in a 3-2 game.

While Dozier's 4-for-5 night turned into three runs scored, Jupiter couldn't produce the same results to back Kyle Jensen. Jensen went 3-for-4 at the plate, with his only out coming in the game's final at-bat. On Thursday, Jensen knocked a single for Jupiter's first hit of the season and then blasted the team's first home run of the year. In this game, the California native opened the 3rd inning with a ground rule double, advanced on a groundout, and scored on Fermin's sacrifice fly for the only Hammerheads run of the night.

The Miracle did most of their damage off Kyle Kaminska, who took the Roger Dean Stadium mound in the 6th inning for the first time since May 21st of last year, an injury ending his season shortly afterwards. The righty gave up three hits and a walk in that first inning of work, yielding two runs.

The Hammerheads will now look to turn the tables on the Miracle as the series shifts to Fort Myers for two games. They'll send another lefty to the mound, with Jose Alvarez set to face off against the Miracle's Tom Stuifbergen.
