Clemens enjoys grand night for Astros

July 26, 2005
Koby Clemens hit his first home run as a professional on Monday night, leading the Greeneville Astros to a 12-5 win over Johnson City in the Appalachian League and earning the MiLB.com "Star of the Day."

Clemens, the son of Astros pitcher Roger Clemens, was playing in his seventh game for Greeneville when he smacked a grand slam over the wall in right-center field in the first inning off Matthew Lane (0-4).

Clemens singled in another run in the second inning off Alberto Guerrero to finish with five RBIs on the night. They were the first runs driven in of his young career.

The third base prospect wasn't done for the night either. He added another single in the fourth inning and finished the night 3-for-5. He is now 9-for-25 (.360) since joining the Astros.

Clemens, 18, signed his first professional contract earlier this month after he was selected by the Astros in the eighth round of the 2005 First-Year Player Draft. Clemens received a $380,000 signing bonus.
