Omaha Earns First Win of 2011 Campaign

Zawadzki and Pucetas key extra innings triumph
April 9, 2011
Albuquerque, N.M. - Lance Zawadzki hit his first home run of the season and drove in four runs to lead the Storm Chasers to their first victory of the season, a 10-4 decision in 10 innings over Albuquerque Saturday night at Isotopes Park.

Kevin Pucetas struck out four over four scoreless innings in relief to earn the win. Starter Danny Duffy was charged with three runs, two earned, on seven hits while walking one and striking out four during five innings in his initial Triple-A turn.

Eric Hosmer's single scored David Lough to tie the game at three in the eighth inning and the game stayed that way until Omaha erupted for a season-high seven runs in the tenth. Hosmer finished 2-for-4 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored.

Zawadzki opened the decisive frame with a walk and scored the go-ahead run on a Mike Moustakas fielder's choice grounder. Paulo Orlando would add a two-run single before Zawadski's two-run double capped the rally.

After Jerry Sands' two-run homer gave the hosts the lead in the fourth inning, Zawadzki evened the score with a two-run blast in the fifth. However, Albuquerque regained the lead in the bottom of the inning when Zawadski committed an error that allowed Ivan DeJesus to score with two outs.

The season-opening four-game series concludes Sunday afternoon when Omaha right-hander Vin Mazzaro takes the hill against Albuquerque right-hander Tim Redding. Coverage of the game gets underway at 2:15 p.m. and can heard locally on KOIL AM 1180 and online at omahastormchasers.com.
