Steven Irvine joins Kernels from Orem

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announce that INF Brandon Decker has been placed on the 7-day disabled list with a left groin strain and that INF Steven Irvine will join the Kernels from Orem. Abe Flores, Director of Player Development for the LA Angels, announced the move on Monday.

The Angels selected Irvine, 23, in the 10th round of the 2010 Free Agent Draft out of McNeese State University (LA). He spent 201 at Orem where he hit .266 with six doubles and 11 RBI in 26 games.

Decker played in the Kernels 2011 opener on April 7 at Peoria where he went 1-4 with a HR.

Irvine will arrive in Cedar Rapids today (Monday) and be available for tonight's 6:35 pm game with Wisconsin. With today's transactions, the Kernels roster remains at the MWL maximum of 25 active players, with one player on the disabled list.

The Kernels begin a four game home stand against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers tonight at 6:35 pm and you can enjoy all the action on the radio home of Kernels baseball, 1450 KMRY AM.
