Former Sun and Major League Pitcher Boof Bonser makes his return to Hagerstown

Boof Bonser to be honored on Saturday May 14th 2016 with a bobble head and Hall of Fame induction

HAGERSTOWN, MD - On Saturday May 14, 2016 the Hagerstown Suns will be inducting former Hagerstown Sun and Major League pitcher Boof Bonser into the Suns Hall of Fame. Bonser will be throwing out the first pitch, having an autograph session and Suns Radio Network appearance. Bonser, who will be joined by his family, said that he is "very pleased" with how the bobble head has turned out and is "excited to be back in Hagerstown".

 

Boof Bonser was selected with the 21st pick of the first round in the Amateur Draft of 2000. He came to Hagerstown as a 19 year old, at the beginning of the 2001 season, and had a breakout year. Boof led the South Atlantic League in wins with 16 and finished second in total strikeouts with 178 in just 134 innings pitched. He was named the 2001 South Atlantic League Most Valuable Pitcher. After being traded to the Minnesota Twins he made his major league debut in 2006. That same year he would appear in the post season against the Oakland A's. He would go on to play with the Boston Red Sox & the Oakland A's. Boof appeared in 111 MLB games making 60 starts in his career.
